WHAT YOU’LL DO
Shape What Could Be
As our Landscape Architect at Storyland, you will personally lead various landscape architectural design projects and provide direction and significant support to multi-disciplinary teams working on multi-layered projects from mixed-use to theme parks, to churches to retail and beyond. Your understanding of land use, outdoor spaces, ground contours, and passion for integrating nature with built environments will add warmth and soil-specific context to each project we imagine, design, and create.
Document the Design
You will get the opportunity to collaborate with clients, stakeholders, design teams, and outside firms to stretch your creativity by developing innovative, functional, and sustainable landscape architectural designs at various levels of fidelity. You’ll assist in developing concepts, plans, and specifications —from pencil to 3D digital models. You will prepare documentation for each project phase, moving blue sky concepts into reality.
Integrating Quality
You care about the accuracy of your work. You maintain quality control procedures to ensure your work product maintains the highest standards. You conduct regular reviews and checks of project documents to identify and resolve issues. You also love collaborating with other disciplines (e.g., designers, planners, structural architects, engineers, etc.) to ensure seamless integration of landscape architecture in every project you touch.
Grow Forward
We’re hiring someone who will roll up their sleeves and add value on day one, but we also believe in the potential of every employee. We want you to grow and have a growth mindset, & we’ll look to support that growth. We want you to grow, and we want you to help us as we do too!
WHAT SUCCESS WILL LOOK LIKE
For day-to-day success, you will...
Exhibit flexibility, kindness, and a willingness to share what you know. Yep, that's the top of the list!
Be comfortable in ambiguity and shaping "something" into something extraordinary without paint-by-number instructions.
Develop strong relationships with project teams, and also proactively connect with Storylanders you may not see in your day-to-day work.
The ability to produce engaging and accurate conceptual, schematic and design development documents for a range of project types:
o Large and small-scale master planned developments
o Mixed-use and infill developments
o Resort and hospitality destinations
o Theme park and attraction experiences
The right candidate will be equally excited working on a theme park installation or a healing garden in a children’s hospital or a communal area on the campus of a large church. Perform land use ideation and program development through each phase of the project. Be able to travel domestically and internationally for site visits and onsite client meetings and workshops. Prepare site plans, specifications, and cost estimates for land development, coordinating arrangement of existing and proposed land features and structures. Exhibit a strong design esthetic and proven ability in selecting the appropriate vegetation, materials, styles and colors for story continuity in your projects. You’ll ensure compliance with local regulations and building codes. You will serve as a resource to Architectural Staff, Producers, Creatives and Project Managers, coordinating multiple aspects of document development, offering technical
guidance. You will effectively collaborate with other project team members and consultants to maintain the quality of the work product within the established budget and schedule. You will ensure cross-collaboration to support efforts to maintain the original design intent of a project from early phases to implementation. You'll demonstrate an ability to work on multiple projects concurrently, with the confidence to multi-task and delegate as required. You'll be on the lookout to share what you know and mentor others on the team, both those on your immediate team and those who are not. You’ll remain plugged in to the latest trends and technologies in landscape architecture.
